Rankine to Celsius Conversion
How to convert Rankine to Celsius
The relationship between temperature in Rankine (ToR) and temperature in Celsius (ToC) is given below:
ToR = (9/5)×ToC + 491.67
Alternatively, it can also be written as:
ToC = (ToR - 491.67)/1.8
Example
To convert 581.67 Rankine into Celsius, the above formula can be used:
((581.67 oR) - 491.67)/1.8 = 50 oC
Rankine
The Rankine is a unit of temperature on the Rankine scale. The symbol for degrees Rankine are oR or oRa. It is just like the Kelvin scale, where Zero on the Rankine scales is absolute zero, but a temperature difference of one Rankine degree is defined as equal to one Fahrenheit degree, rather than the Celsius degree used on the Kelvin scale. On the Rankine scale, pure water freezes at 491.67 oR, and it boils at 671.67 oR.
Celsius
The degree Celsius is a unit of temperature on the Celsius scale. The degree Celsius (symbol: oC) refers to a specific temperature on the Celsius scale or a unit to indicate a difference between two temperatures. Since 1743 the Celsius scale has been based on 0 oC for the freezing point of water and 100 oC for the boiling point of water at 1 atm pressure.
